Our employees served plenty of food and children enjoyed the games and activities and Electric 102 provided entertainment.

What to do if your ATM or Check Card is lost or stolen and the Bank is closed

Briefly About Putnam County Bank
Putnam County Bank was organized in October 1901 and is a state-chartered bank. The Bank is regulated by the West Virginia Division of Banking and the Federal Reserve System. The Bank's deposits are insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.
Putnam County Bank is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Putnam Bancshares, Inc. Putnam Bancshares, Inc. is regulated by the West Virginia Division of Banking and the Federal Reserve System. Formed in 1985, Putnam Bancshares, Inc. owns 100% of the shares of Putnam County Bank and a controlling interest in a title insurance company, Putnam County Title Insurance Company. The directors of Putnam Bancshares, Inc. serve as directors in Putnam County Bank.

Putnam County Bank is participating in the FDIC’s Transaction Account Guarantee Program. Under that program, through December 31, 2010, all noninterest-bearing transaction accounts are fully guaranteed by the FDIC for the entire amount in the account. Coverage under the Transaction Account Guarantee Program is in addition to and separate from the coverage available under the FDIC’s general deposit insurance rules.

Noninterest-bearing transaction accounts are defined as a transaction account with respect to which interest is neither accrued nor paid and on which advance notice of withdrawal is not required. This definition was designed to include traditional demand deposit checking accounts that allow for an unlimited number of deposits and withdrawals at any time. It does NOT include interest-bearing money market deposit accounts. The FDIC has created certain exceptions to the definition of "noninterest-bearing transaction account" to include certain accounts commonly known as Interest on Lawyers Trust Accounts (IOLTA) and NOW accounts with a maximum interest rate of .25%.

Putnam County Bank's NOW account rates may be higher than .25%. That means that NOW accounts at Putnam County Bank are NOT covered under the FDIC's Transaction Account Guarantee Program. Funds held in NOW accounts will be insured up to $250,000 under the FDIC's general deposit rules. All other "noninterest-bearing transaction accounts" are fully guaranteed by the FDIC for the entire amount in the account.

Below are two posters which give advice on how to avoid becoming a vicitim of internet fraud.

Before Traveling with Your VISA Check Card, Call Us

During the first two months of 2009, Putnam County Bank has seen a significant increase in VISA Check Card compromises. A compromise suggests that card numbers and expiration dates "may" have fallen into wrong hands...no other information. Putnam County Bank utilizes a variety of tools which provide around-the-clock monitoring of these transactions to prevent fraud and unauthorized use.

While we employ state-of-the-art tools, we still need the help of our customers to fight fraud. Here are some important tips to remember to help us fight fraud:

• Never write down your PIN. Memorize it as soon as you get it.
• Do not disclose your PIN to anyone. No one from any financial institution, the police or a merchant should ever ask for your PIN.
• Beware of phishing emails. These are emails that appear to be from your bank or online merchant asking for account information. Do not reply to them or click on any links. Visa, your bank or any other legitimate online merchant will never ask for your PIN or other personal financial information via email.
• At an ATM or PIN pad, enter your PIN discreetly, shielding the keypad with your hand or body.
Spot suspicious activity and protect your account:
1. Review your monthly checking account statements to spot any unauthorized purchases.
You can also monitor your account activity online at any time at www.putcobk.com or via the telephone toll-free by using PUTNAM-24.
2. Review your credit reports for accuracy. Call any one of the three credit reporting agencies to receive your free annual credit report.
3. If you spot any unauthorized charges, please contact us immediately at (304) 562-9931.
4. You should also contact the three credit reporting agencies listed above to notify them of any suspected fraud or identity theft.

By using some very simple steps, you will help us in the daily fight against fraud and thieves who look for all possible ways to steal. All our personnel are trained in how to protect our customers and their accounts. If you have any questions, please call us.

A September 2008 article in the American Banker ("Going Paperless: A Rare Strategy of Win-Win-Win") cites that the average person could reduce their chances of suffering identity theft fraud by as much as 9% by shutting off paper statements and bills.

The article continues to say that an average household received 26 bills, statement and checks per month in 2006. In addition to the safety aspect, it also has great ecological value. Less paper means lower requirements of wood pulp, water and energy as well as less waste to landfills. Less paper waste means cleaner air from less emission of methane gases in landfills.

E-statements provide you security by removing your account information from your mailbox and providing it soon after your statement date. Once you access your statement, you may print it or save it on your pc. The print quality is equal to statements received in the mail.
